About NEET

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and is the single mandatory entrance exam for admission to all undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS), and AYUSH (BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS) courses across India, including premier institutes like AIIMS and JIPMER.

Eligibility

  • Completed or completing Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as core subjects
  • Minimum age: 17 years, completed on or before 31st December of the admission year
  • No upper age limit for appearing in NEET
  • No official restriction on the number of attempts

Exam Pattern

Subject Questions Marks
Physics 45 180
Chemistry 45 180
Biology (Botany + Zoology) 90 360

Total: 180 compulsory questions, 720 marks, pen-and-paper (OMR-based) exam, 3 hours duration. Each correct answer earns +4 marks; each wrong answer deducts 1 mark. NEET is conducted in English, Hindi and several regional languages including Tamil.

Physics

Based on the NCERT Class 11 & 12 syllabus: Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetism, Optics, and Modern Physics. Physics is often the most time-consuming section — strong formula recall and numerical practice are essential.

Chemistry

Covers Physical, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry from NCERT Class 11 & 12 — including Chemical Bonding, Periodic Table, Equilibrium, Organic Reaction Mechanisms, and Biomolecules. Inorganic and Organic Chemistry are high-scoring with consistent revision.

Biology

The highest-weightage subject, combining Botany and Zoology from NCERT Class 11 & 12 — Cell Biology, Genetics & Evolution, Human Physiology, Plant Physiology, Ecology, and Biotechnology. NCERT line-by-line mastery is critical since most questions are directly NCERT-based.

Preparation Strategy

Since Biology carries half the total marks, prioritize thorough NCERT mastery there first. Build daily practice routines in Physics numericals and Chemistry reactions, and move to full-length mock tests under 3-hour timed conditions in the final months to build exam stamina and manage negative marking risk.

Mock Tests / Test Series

Apex Academy's NEET test series includes subject-wise sectional tests, full-length mocks in the exact NTA pattern, All-India ranking and percentile, and detailed performance analysis to identify weak topics before the final exam.
