Graduate-Level Teaching Recruitment — Overview

UG TRB is a state-level recruitment exam conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board, Tamil Nadu, to appoint Graduate Teachers / BT Assistants / BRTEs for Classes VI to VIII across government schools in Tamil Nadu. Unlike TET, UG TRB is a direct recruitment exam that results in a teaching appointment, not just an eligibility certificate.

Eligibility

Candidates must have cleared TNTET Paper II and hold any ONE of the following qualifications in a relevant subject (Tamil, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, History, or Geography):

• Graduation (minimum 50%) in the relevant subject + 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed)
• Graduation (minimum 50%) in the relevant subject + Bachelor of Education (B.Ed)
• Higher Secondary (minimum 50%) + 4-year Integrated B.Ed / B.A.Ed / B.Sc.Ed / B.El.Ed
• Graduation (minimum 50%) + B.Ed (Special Education)

TNTET Paper II qualification is a strict mandatory requirement — candidates without a valid TET pass certificate cannot apply for UG TRB.

Written Examination

Part A — Tamil Eligibility Test (Qualifying)

A compulsory qualifying paper on basic Tamil language proficiency. Candidates must clear the minimum qualifying marks in Part A to have Part B evaluated; Part A marks are not added to the final merit.

Part B — Subject Paper + General Knowledge

An objective-type, multiple-choice examination covering the candidate's chosen subject in depth, along with General Knowledge, General English, and Teaching Aptitude components. The subject paper carries the highest weight and determines the final merit ranking.

Subject-wise Preparation

Preparation is organised subject-by-subject, since UG TRB recruits teachers for Tamil, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, History, and Geography separately. Each subject paper tests graduate-level depth of the chosen discipline, combined with how it is taught at the Classes VI–VIII level.

General Preparation

Alongside the subject paper, candidates must build strong General Knowledge (current affairs, Tamil Nadu history and geography, general science), Tamil Nadu education policy awareness, and a working command of General English and basic Tamil for Part A.

Certificate Verification

Candidates who qualify in the written examination are shortlisted based on merit and called for certificate verification, where original educational, TET, community and age-proof documents are checked before final counselling and school allotment.
