PG TRB is a state-level direct recruitment exam conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board, Tamil Nadu, to appoint subject-specialist teachers for Classes IX to XII in government and government-aided higher secondary schools. It demands deeper subject expertise than UG TRB and does not require a TET qualification, since TET applies only to elementary and upper-primary posts.
Age limits and relaxations follow Tamil Nadu government recruitment rules as notified for each TRB cycle.
PG TRB recruits specialist subject teachers — Tamil, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Computer Science, History, Economics, Commerce and other higher-secondary subjects. Each subject paper is set at postgraduate depth, covering the full scope of the subject as taught in Classes IX to XII.
A more advanced paper than its UG TRB equivalent, covering educational psychology, curriculum design, teaching methodology, Tamil Nadu education policies, and general knowledge/current affairs.
An in-depth, postgraduate-level subject paper in the candidate's chosen discipline, carrying the highest weight toward the final merit list.
Build a strong foundation in educational psychology and teaching methodology alongside subject mastery, since Paper I is weighted more heavily than in UG TRB. Stay current with Tamil Nadu education policy updates and general knowledge, which form a recurring part of Paper I.
Selection is based on performance in the written examination (Paper I and Paper II), followed by certificate verification of educational qualifications, community, and age-proof documents, and final counselling for school allotment based on merit rank and vacancy availability.
Working through previous-year PG TRB papers for your subject is one of the most effective ways to understand question difficulty, recurring topics, and the balance between Paper I and Paper II preparation time.
Apex Academy's PG TRB test series includes subject-specific full-length mocks, a dedicated Paper I (Teaching Methodology & GK) practice module, and previous-year question banks with detailed solutions.
