About RBI Assistant

RBI Assistant recruits candidates for clerical-cadre posts across the Reserve Bank of India's regional offices. It is one of the most sought-after government banking exams, offering roughly 650 vacancies per cycle, RBI's own pay structure (separate from nationalised bank scales), and a three-stage selection: Preliminary exam, Main exam, and a Language Proficiency Test (LPT).

Eligibility

Age Limit

20 to 28 years as on the notified cut-off date. Age relaxation: OBC (NCL) 3 years, SC/ST 5 years, PwBD 10 years, Ex-servicemen as per central government rules, and additional relaxation for widows/divorced/judicially separated women not remarried, and candidates with prior RBI work experience.

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks (pass class for SC/ST/PwBD candidates)
  • Working knowledge of computers is mandatory
  • Proficiency in the official/local language of the applied state or Union Territory is required

Language Proficiency Test (LPT)

Candidates who clear the Mains appear for a qualifying Language Proficiency Test in the official language of the state/UT applied for. Final merit is based on Mains marks alone; the LPT does not carry marks but must be cleared for selection.

Preparation Strategy

Since Prelims cut-offs are competitive, build speed early in Numerical Ability and Reasoning. For Mains, dedicate focused time to General Awareness and Computer Knowledge, which many candidates underprepare for, and start local-language practice early for the LPT.

Selected candidates join as Assistants at RBI regional offices, handling cash, clearing, currency management and general administrative work.
